Suggested Reading on Health: Books with the Mind/Body/Spirit Connection in Mind.
Love, Medicine & Miracles: Lessons Learned about Self-Healing from a Surgeon's Experience with Exceptional Patients. Bernie Siegel, M.D. This book is a must. I have heard Dr. Siegel speak in person many times, and own some of his lecture tapes and guided visualization tapes.
Life Worth Living: How Someone You Love Can Still Enjoy Life in Nursing Home. William Thomas, M.D. This doctor specifically talks about humanizing nursing homes and caring for people, not just treating them. An excellent read.
The Dancing Healers. A Doctor's Journey of Healing with Native Americans. Carl Hammerschlag, MD. From the preface: "These are the stories I have lived. They tell of how I began to learn to become a healer rather than a doctor. They tell of how I came to understand that the power to heal comes from hearing your own music and dancing your own dance."
The Physician Within You: Discovering the Power of Inner Healing. Gladys Taylor McGarey, M.D. From the back cover: "Dr. McGarey shares the guiding philosophy of her 50-year medical practice. The real-life stories of her patients dramatically illustrate the potential of Dr. McGarey's humane and wise approach to medical care and give you an exhilarating glimpse of the future of medicine. By taking responsibility for their own health, accepting full partnership with their physicians, and being open to alternative healing modalities, these patients are healed into life or ushered into death with grace and dignity."
My Voice Will Go With You: The Teaching Tales of Milton H. Erickson. Erickson was a brilliant hypnotherapist and psychotherapist. Written on the back cover by the American Journal of Psychoanalysis: "There is much in this book for any clinician of any persuasion to learn from or adopt in his own work." Not as directly related as the above mentioned books and worthwhile.
The Healing Power of Humor. Techniques for Getting Through Loss, Setbacks, Upsets, Disappointments, Difficulties,Trials, Tribulations and All That Not-So Funny Stuff. Allen Klein. Again, this book is not as directly related as some of the previously mentioned books, yet it gives good insight into relating to others in times of challenge.
